Fire Department Monitoring River Levels

Beautiful blue skies and the promise of warmer weather on the way. We’ve been clamouring for spring for weeks. But with the mercury rising, so do river levels. In the spring, the Fraser River is the most problematic with the Spring freshet.
This is the time of year the Fire Department starts to watch the river levels.
“Many dynamics, weather, rain, sun, heat and the snowpack are all factors that determine what will end up happening,” says Deputy Fire Chief Cliff Warner. “So we really just monitoring it.”
Typically, Paddlewheel Park is the bellwether for flooding on the Fraser River. That normally happens in late May to mid-June.
