Rising Interest In Electric Vehicles From B.C. Residents

A new report from B-C Hydro finds many B-C residents are interested in electric vehicles but believe the cars are too expensive and have limited range.

The study disputes those concepts, instead of finding that, over the long-term, some electric vehicles are less expensive than comparable gas-powered cars in ownership costs, and new batteries give the cars a range of up to 150 kilometres per charge.

Hydro says a key reason electric vehicles are cheaper is that BC has one of the lowest electricity rates in North America, while the increased range is due to improvements in technology.

The study says the majority of vehicle trips are under 30 kilometres, and when compared with gasoline-powered vehicles, electric car owners can save as much as 14-hundred dollars annually on fuel.
