PRINCE GEORGE- For many, May Long weekend is the first official camping trip of the season. Tourism Prince George says camping in the north is a unique experience. “The nice thing about camping in the north is that it’s not crowded, whether it’s a provincial campsite or a private campsite there’s a pretty good chance if you’re driving through that you’re going to find a spot,” said CEO Erica Hummel. However, Hummel advises campers to book in advance as some campsites fill up quickly especially on long weekends. She also adds stopping into the Tourism Prince George office is helpful, even if you’ve already made a reservation. “It’s always worth checking in, we can give you the latest updates on fires, on bans, even bear aware, if we know there’s a bear in a park,” adds Hummel,”we have fishing rods here and tackle that we loan out for free, we have bikes… so it’s always good.”
