PRINCE GEORGE – The fight against bike theft continues this summer through the local RCMP.  The 5-2-9 Garage initiative is underway again, with crews visiting a number of events through town offering cyclists a chance to register their bikes.

Bike theft is big business, last year the RCMP received reports of 164 stolen bikes, and those registered with 5-2-9 Garage had a recovery rate of 6.75 times higher than unregistered ones.

The registration team plans to be out this weekend at the McIntyre Crescent Safety Day on Saturday between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.  Following that they will visit Otway on the 20th, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm and will be set up at the “Ride Don’t Hide’ event on Sunday June 24th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at CN Centre.

Bike owners will get one entry into a draw for a 2018 Norco Storm mountain bike donated by Cycle World and Norco. RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass says bike theft numbers last year were down from years previous.
