Evacuation Order & Alert Issued In CRD

Aug 8, 2018 | 12:11 PM

WILLIAMS LAKE – Two evacuation alerts have been issued by the Cariboo Regional District Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). The alerts are in place for 17 properties in the Shag Creek area and an expanded alert for 38 properties in the Tatelkuz Lake area. The evacuation alert for the Tatelkuz Lake area replaces the alert that was issued on July 31st.

Residents can begin to prepare to evacuate their homes, if necessary. They are also encouraged to register for the Cariboo Chilcotin Emergency Notification System. At this time, there are no other wildfires threatening properties in the Cariboo Regional District.

In the case of an alert, prepare a plan to send out family members outside the area, keep essential items easily available and monitor the CRD’s channels on Facebook and their website. Should the conditions change, residents will be notified, but they might receive limited notice.

UPDATE

As of Wednesday, the Shag Creek area alert for 17 properties has now been changed to an evacuation order. It is now in effect for 93 properties, between the northwestern boundary of CRD to the southern edge of Tsacha Lake. For the evacuation route, some residents may need to take the Alex Mackenzie Heritage Trail to the Kluskus Forest Service Road to the Red Road, looping back around to Kluskus service road and out to Vanderhoof and Prince George along Highway 16. The Red Road detour is required for some residents, as the Kluskus Forest Service Road has been impacted by the Chutanli Lake Wildfire. Residents are asked to register at Emergency Support Services at the Civic Centre in Prince George.

With an evacuation order, you must leave immediately, close all windows and doors, shut off all gas and electrical appliances, close gates but don’t lock them, gather your family and take essential items (medicine, wallet, keys, etc).
