PRINCE GEORGE – RCMP are warning residents to be cautious and on the lookout after five suspicious incidents have occurred recently in Prince George. All five incidents involved people knocking on doors, posing as an employee of a security alarm company and wanting to enter the home.

Last Monday evening, police received a report about a man posing as a GE alarm system employee on North Ogilvie Street. Police say the man was checking on the systems in the area and requested to enter the home, but the homeowner did not allow him in. The security company confirmed that the man did not work for them. The suspect is described as a man, who’s about 20 years old, 5 foot 10 inches, heavy build and wearing a white GE uniform shirt.

Last Wednesday evening, police received a similar report about a man asking questions about the alarm system at a home on Chartwell Crescent in the Westgate area. The homeowner refused to let the man in. The suspect is described as a Caucasian man, 6 foot one inches, average build, light coloured hair, wearing a blue GE work shirt and drove a white Ford F150 with Alberta licence plates.

Last Thursday night, police received another report about a man asking a homeowner questions about their alarm system on Chartwell Crescent. The homeowner refused to allow the man inside and the suspect left. The man is described as wearing a dark coloured short sleeve GE shirt, dark coloured shorts and drove what is possibly a black four-door Chevrolet Cruze.

On Saturday afternoon RCMP received another report about a man wearing a GE shirt at a home on Runnalls Avenue. The man requested to enter the home to replace the alarm system, but the owner asked him to leave and he did. The man is described as about 28 years old, about 6 feet tall and wearing a blue t-shirt and sport shorts.

Again on Saturday, in the evening, police received a similar complaint from a resident on Trent Drive in the lower College Heights area. Police say a man attended the home and was representing GE and an alarm company.

Police say all five incidents are similar and remain under investigation. The possibility that the suspects are working for a legitimate business door to door has not been ruled out by investigators. RCMP add that there have been similar incidents reported in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

UPDATE

RCMP have now determined that the individuals were representing Capital Security and is a legitimate home security business operating in Prince George. The business representatives will have ID to show residents. Investigators have no more concerns regarding this company. Police would like to thank the public for reporting their concerns.
