International Students After Graduation

PRINCE GEORGE – Parminder Singh came to Prince George from India in 2015 to study Information Technology at CNC. He chose CNC after finishing some IT courses in India and liked what CNC had to offer.

“CNC is the best option for me because they provide better education for IT studies,” says Singh.

Now that he’s graduated, Singh has started working at the college as their IT Service Desk Analyst. Prior to that, he was working as a contracted technician, but CNC had a better offer.

“I was a technician as a contractor – so instead of working on contract, it’s a full-time permanent job, so why not go with the full-time permanent job?”

CNC says that students come from all around the world, into a variety of different programs and that the numbers of students are growing from year to year.

The city works together with CNC and UNBC to help create initiatives that encourage students to stay in Prince George post-graduation. One of these initiatives is the Northworks Career Fair, which gives students opportunities to meet possible employers for jobs after graduation. Having international students fill open jobs helps to keep up with competition.

“Attracting international people to fill those positions is an important strategy that goes into keeping our businesses competitive,” says Melissa Barcellos, Economic Development Manager for Prince George.
