PRINCE GEORGE – After a busy few months at a number of cycling events,  529 Garage is wrapping for the year.   The initative encourages locals to register the make, model and serial number of their bikes in case they get stolen.

Bike theft is not just an issue in the city,  but through the province and the nation. Prince George RCMP Cpl Craig Douglass says “bike theft is a billion dollar industry in North America,  and certainly is a problem here.  It was on a steady decline before this program several years ago and it’s holding steady now.”

Lorri Taylor ended up the winner of a draw for a brand new bike donated by Cycle World from the names of this years registrants.  Taylor registered her bike at an event at L’heidli Tenneh Memorial Park this summer. Taylor says its “absolutely worth the time and effort to register your bike.”

529 Garage will continue next year,  but those looking to register their bikes online can still do so through the website or the app.
