PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Cougars have fired head coach Richard Matvichuk.

The news comes in the wake of the team's 11th straight loss to the Vancouver Giants last night, 4-3 in overtime.

Matvichuk was in the final year of a three-year contract with the club. The team won the B.C. Division in his first year behind the bench, but that was followed up with a first-round loss to the Portland Winterhawks.

The Cats missed the playoffs last year and currently sit last in the B.C. Division with a 16-30-4-2 record.

Team management says General Manager Mark Lamb will assume the role as head coach on an interim basis while Development Coach Nick Drazenovic has been promoted to an assistant coach and will join Mark Lamb and Steve O’Rourke behind the Cougars bench.
