Four-Player Trade Between Cougars And Pats

The Prince George Cougars and the Regina Pats made a four-player trade today. Cougars General Manager Todd Harkins announced that the team acquired forward Kjell Kjemhus, defenceman Ethan McColm, a third and fifth-round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft from the Pats.

The Cougars sent the playing rights of forward Jesse Gabrielle and defenceman Jonas Harkins to Regina. Harkins said, “Jesse was a great player for us in his two seasons in Prince George and now he and Jonas get a great opportunity to play for a Memorial Cup in Regina.”

From Grand Prairie, Alberta, 16-year-old Kjell Kjemhus played three games with the Pats and 30 games at the Pursuit of Excellence (POE) Academy in Kelowna, BC with their Midget Prep team in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) and their U-18 team in the North American Prospects Hockey League.

15-year-old Ethan McColm from Oakbank, Manitoba is the team’s top-scoring defenceman with six goals and 20 points in 21 games. Last season McColm picked up five goals and 16 points in 33 games with 32 penalty minutes.

Jesse Gabrielle was third in scoring with 35 goals and 64 points in 61 games. In just two seasons with the Cougars, he collected 75 goals and 139 points in 133 regular season games.

On the Cougars blue-line, Jonas Harkins was in his rookie season, picking up one assist in 14 games. His first WHL point came on New Year’s Day, in the Cougars 4-3 overtime loss against Vancouver.

Cougars face the Tr-City Americans tonight at the CN Centre. Puck drops at 7 pm.
