To Your Health: Packing Lunches

PRINCE GEORGE – Busy schedules are back, especially for kids, and sometimes eating falls victim to it. But, there are a couple of things when packing your child’s lunch that can help with eating habits in a school environment.

“There are actually a lot of barriers to kids eating at school, including a lack of time. And schools can be really busy loud and distracting environments. So, it can be helpful to kind of check in to see if your child needs help with opening their lunch containers or is getting enough time to eat.”

– Emilia Moulechkova, Dietitian, Northern Health

Sometimes the types of food that are packed can play as a factor when opening that lunch.

“Make sure you’re packing things that your kids are comfortable and familiar with eating. School lunches may not be the best time to get super adventurous with the food. And that’s totally fine. It can also be helpful to involve kids in packing their own lunch or giving them some choice when possible.”
