PRINCE GEORGE – An unfortunate accident took place over the weekend near Tete Jaune Cache, involving a motorcycle that resulted in one person’s death and another’s injury.

The Valemount RCMP responded to the incident and temporarily closed the highway to investigate the crash. As temperatures rise, all motorists must remain vigilant and practice safe driving habits.

According to Corporal Madonna Saunderson, the accident occurred near the weigh scales on Highway 16, north of Tete Jaune Cache. Therefore, the RCMP urges drivers to be mindful of motorcyclists, particularly during this time of year.

The British Columbia Coroners Service reported that from 2012 to 2021, an average of 37 motorcyclists died each year. It was found that these fatalities occurred more frequently on Saturdays, followed by Sundays. All drivers must exercise caution and share the road with all vehicles, regardless of their size.

Drivers of larger vehicles must always be vigilant and check their blind spots for motorcyclists who may be passing by.
