The first of what could be many future water engagement meetings will be taking place in Vanderhoof tomorrow, facilitated by Rio Tinto.

“The initiative will set about the interests of various stakeholders, participants, First Nations and looking at how the river is currently operated, explains Andrew Czornohalan, Acting GM, Rio Tinto Alcan. “And then as that process evolves, the intent will really be to look at ways we can improve the reservoir operation, the management of the river, the flows, to ultimately better reflect the interests that the table brings forward.”

Relations between the aluminum giant and watershed users has been cool in recent years. But some are sensing a new relationship moving forward.
