PRINCE GEORGE–Last year’s leading scorer for the UNBC Timberwolves, Paige Payne, made it hurt again, by scoring just 10 minutes into Thursday’s match to give the Timberwolves a lead in the first game of their season.

The Kitimat striker and her TWolves hosted the TRU Wolfpack at Masich Place Thursday and walked away with a 1-0 win. The game featured approximately 760 fans, with hundreds of PGSS students attending the game.

TRU’s goalkeeper Danielle Robertson was kept very busy in net, while the offence of the Wolfpack was silenced by the Twolves and their third-year keeper Brooke Molby. Shots were 18-10 for the TWolves.

The UNBC Women’s team now gets set for Saturday’s noon kickoff against the UBC-Okanagan Heat. The school has invited students and the community to their Party in the Park event happening before the game. The school’s first-ever tailgate party begins at 11 AM in the field right next to Masich Place and will feature food trucks, carnival games, and a food drive.
