PRINCE GEORGE – The Natural Resources Forum highlighted one industry, in particular as having a positive forecast. There are currently 17 mines and two smelters in operation in BC right now.

“Mining is out-of-sight, out-of-mind. But, really, we know that in 215 BC communities there are thousands of businesses that depend on mining,” says Michael Goehring, President & CEO, Mining Association of BC.

There are 3,730 suppliers providing more than $2.9 billion in services and supplies to that industry. And Prince George has the second-highest level of service providers, behind Kamloops. Locally, 300 companies provide $252,041,000 worth of supplies and services per year. It’s those kinds of numbers that put a smile on the face of the City’s Manager of Economic Development, Melissa Barcellos.

“I think its a really good example for us to lean on to describe Prince George as a supply chain centre. The closest mines are around three hours away, yet we’re still leading the province in terms of companies supplying the mining industry, but also the dollar value of those supplies. It’s incredible.”
