PRINCE GEORGE – It’s a feather in the cap of Le Cercle des Canadiens Francais de Prince George.

This community is one of 14 in Canada to be chosen a Welcoming Francophone Community, which will actively promote Prince George as a place to settle from countries far afield.

“The Le Cercle des Canadiens Francais de Prince George, the French-Canadian Association, have been in Prince George since 1960,” says Renee Trepanier. “So, we are celebrating 60 years. We are about 10 per cent of Prince George and the region for the population of Francophone.”

She says the strong Francophone and Francophile communities in Prince George, and its overall welcoming nature made the city an easy choice.

The new status as a Welcoming Community means the Association will be given the means through annual funding from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to help newcomers settle in, with things ESL lessons, employment and the like.
