PRINCE GEORGE – As cases continue to climb BC Health Officials are taking action including new orders affecting the entire province.

Many orders were already in place in the Lower Mainland but will now be extended into the rest of the province until December 7.

New orders include:

  • Mandatory face mask-wearing in public and retail spaces
  • Social gatherings only with those in your immediate household
  • All community-based events are suspended including those with less than 50 people
  • High-intensity interval training, hot yoga, spin classes all suspended
  • No sports-related travel outside of your local community

C.E.O of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce is pleased with the new mask-wearing orders, saying this is good for businesses.

“Now there is no question,” says Todd Corrigall. “Now customers can’t come into stores and get angry at the staff who are in there.”

Prior to the new face mask order, Corrigall says this was a battle businesses were forced to fight on their own, and it is excellent to see government support.

All of this as Provincial Health Officer Dr. Henry announced 538 new cases of the virus in B.C. today, including 11 in Northern Health.

She said there are 6,929 active cases of the virus with 217 people in hospital – 59 of whom are in intensive or critical care.

Henry said the surge in cases is stretching the capacity of intensive care units in B.C.

Sadly there was one additional death bringing B.C.’s death toll to 321.
