PRINCE GEORGE – “It is our expectation that everybody in BC, right now, will limit their travel as much as possible unless it is essential.”

Those were the words from Dr. Bonnie Henry yesterday as she beefed up orders around public gatherings, which includes new expectations around travel.

As a result, Tourism Prince George has closed it’s Visitor Information Centre for a second time this year. On its website, it writes: “In light of the update on November 19 by the Provincial Health Officer the Prince George Visitor Centre will close immediately. The tentative reopening date of the centre is set for January 11, 2021.” It goes on to say that the folks can call 250-562-3700 or email at info@tourismpg.com for help virtually.

The order yesterday came as no surprise, given the spike in cases.

“As you know, we just launched our new brand for Prince George and I think we’ve been cautious and really flexible through the year to follow the recommended messaging and support, where we can, local businesses,” explains Tracey McBride, CEO of Tourism Prince George.

However, she also expressed some concerns around a potential extension of the order after December 7th.

“I think that is always the worry,” she says. “We know with the ski hills, the recommendation is ‘Go to your local ski hill.’ But I know with the winter tourism, we know we have to focus on this next couple of weeks so we can have a bit of a winter season. So, right now, we as with the entire country, have to double-down, as they say.”

She reminds local residents that are things to do locally as a staycation.
