PRINCE GEORGE – A pair of sisters in Prince George have roped their way into the Canadian High School Rodeo Finals in Swift Current Saskatchewan this weekend.

This comes after both of them were crowned champions at events here in our province.

June marked the first time since COVID shut them down that the Jones sisters of Prince George were able to show their rodeo skills in competition.

Not only did they show up, but they also seized the opportunity. Sixteen-year-old Fallon was crowned the overall champion in the breakaway roping at the BC High School Rodeo Association senior championships in Quesnel.

“It was definitely a very busy weekend competing in seven events, said Fallon.” Just really had to take one run at a time and had to make sure I had my horses warm and make sure I had everything ready to do well.”

Meanwhile, 12-year-old Nevada was the crown champion in two of her six events at the BCHSRA junior finals held in Merritt.

As a result of the sisters’ performances, they both earned the right to compete in the Canadian High School Rodeo Championships this weekend in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

“This will be my first year as a senior competing. I went twice as a junior, but I’m pretty excited to be competing at a higher level,” said Fallon. “To go in the reining cow horse, which I’ve only done for a couple of months this year, I’m very excited to go do that over there.”

“I’m very excited to go,” said Nevada. t is my first Canadian Finals, so I’m just excited to be going and competing.

With the sport, the Jones sisters admit many of their rodeo friends are from out of town. But with their success, it’s become a talking point for them with their city friends.

“I know a lot of our friends when we post pictures of us, when I was in South Dakota going for Nationals or when we’re travelling a lot, a lot of them want to come over and see what we do,” said Fallon. They come and ride with us, so it’s definitely intriguing when they find out what we’ve done.”

While the two are competing in Swift Current under different age groups, the two were very quick to admit there’s a burning rivalry between the two of them, but they will surely set their sister rivalry aside in hopes that each brings home their respective high school crown in Swift Current.
