Evacuation order issued due to Cutoff Creek wildfire

UPDATE (1:50): The evacuation order was expanded to include:

  • the west end of Frank Lake west across Kluskus Forest Service Road at the 44 kilometer mark to East Swanson Road, including Crystal Lake
  • south to Red Road at the 11 km mark
  • east to the south end of Hay Lake
  • back north to the west end of Frank Lake including a portion of Finger-Tatuk Park, as shown on the attached map

The evacuation alert was also changed:

  • from approximately 60 km south along the Kenney Dam Road to 500 Road
  • approximately 15 kilometers south-east to Red Road
  • northeast along the East Swanson Road to the junction of Domtar and Kluskus FSR, as shown on the attached map

EARLIER: PRINCE GEORGE — An evacuation order was issued by the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, Saik’uz First Nation and B.C. Parks last night (Aug. 13) due to the 22,065-hectare Cutoff Creek wildfire.

The order affects properties within the following area:

  • 44 kilometers on the Kluskus Forest Service Road, east to the west end of Frank Lake
  • south to the south end of Hay Lake
  • east to 11 km on the Red Road
  • then back north to 44 km on the Kluskus Forest Service Road, including a portion of Finger-Tatuk Park, as shown on the attached map

Anyone in the described area must immediately evacuate and register with the reception centre at the Vanderhoof Fire Hall (2230 Nechako Ave.) or call Emergency Support Services (ESS). ESS can aid with food, accommodation, hotel or staying with friends and family, clothing, emotional support, and family reunification.

Residents who must evacuate are asked to close all windows and doors, shut off all gas and electric appliances (other than refrigerators and freezers), close gates and latches (but do not lock), take critical items if immediately available, take pets in kennels or on a leash, and to not use more vehicles than needed.

Anyone who needs assistance for livestock can call the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako at 250- 692-3195 or 1-800-320-3339. If Saik’uz First Nation members require assistance, please contact them at 250-570-1295.

Because of the potential danger to life and health due to the Cutoff Creek wildfire, an evacuation alert has been amended for the following areas:

  • from approximately 60 km south along the Kenney Dam Road to 500 Road, then approximately 15 kilometers south-east to Red Road.
  • north-east to the junction of Domtar and Kluskus FSR, as shown on the attached map.

Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation. However, they may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.
