PRINCE GEORGE – Stay home, and avoid non-essential travel to any areas impacted by wildfire.

As of Tuesday, there were 263 fires burning throughout the province,. 3/31 fires of note are in the Prince George Fire Centre but the majority are in the Kamloops fire Centre, an area that is also a popular tourist destination.

Public Safety Minister, Mike Farnworth, says that the Okanagon is already overwhelmed with wildfires, COVID-19 and evacuations that they do not need to be dealing with tourists as well.

Across BC, as of Tuesday afternoon, there were 86 evacuation orders and 125 alerts in place. Anyone who is under an evacuation alert should be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.

As the access to highways is quickly changing, BC Wildfire Services is strongly encouraging everyone to stay as up to date as possible.

And as interesting as fires may be, BC Wildfire Services is reminding drivers to continue through to their destinations rather than stop and take photos or videos.
