B.C. passport questions for seniors and those vaccinated out of province

Aug 25, 2021 | 4:32 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – As the province heads into its fourth wave of COVID-19 and we wait for the launch of the vaccine passport, there are many questions surrounding these new measures.

“I am grateful to every single person who has taken the time to receive their COVID-19 vaccine,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer. “While our vaccination rate continues to rise, we are still seeing waves of transmission primarily amongst those who are not fully vaccinated. These new measures will help reduce transmission and keep our communities safe and ensure we can continue to keep businesses open and safely enjoy much-needed social events.”

Some of those questions are for instance, how will the passport work for those vaccinated but from other provinces?, and what if you have one in shot in B.C. and one shot from another province?

Here are some solutions from Northern Health.

If you received one or two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in another province or country, you must:

· Register with the Get Vaccinated provincial registration system

· Submit proof of an official immunization record. It will be entered into the Provincial Immunization Registry

Submit immunization record

There are also concerns surrounding our seniors. Many had to enlist help from the Prince George Council of Seniors when it came to registering for the vaccine itself. Lola-Dawn Fennell suspects that will happen again with the Vaccination Passport.

” I think the Government makes the assumption that we are all technologically savvy and capable, and that’s not true.” explains Lola-Dawn Fennell, Executive Director for the Council of Seniors ” Just be patient, that’s all we can do right now. I think the passports are a good thing. I think they will encourage more people to get vaccinated and we definitely need that.”
