UNBC women’s basketball edged out in tight battle with UBC Thunderbirds to split weekend, men swept in both

PRINCE GEORGE — Following Friday night’s win over UBC, the UNBC Timberwolves women’s basketball team fought hard last night (Nov. 27) but came away with a 68-66 loss to the UBC Thunderbirds.

UNBC was leading the game at half time 38-34, before the T-Birds squeaked ahead in the third and fourth quarters.

For UNBC, Alina Shakirova was the leading scorer with 17 points, as well as eight rebounds and five assists. Rebecca Landry had 12 points, while Sarah Kuklisin added 10 points and five rebounds off the bench. Sveta Boykova hauled in 15 rebounds in the loss.

With the result, the Thunderbirds improve to 3-5 on the campaign, while the T-Wolves fall to 4-2.

MEN’S RESULTS

Meantime, the UNBC men’s team fell to the visiting Vancouver team 101-69 Saturday evening (Nov. 27) to finish off the weekend with two losses.

UBC Thunderbirds came out with an early lead, holding off the T-Wolves for the rest of the game time.

For the Timberwolves, Vova Pluzhnikov finished with 14 points and four helpers, while Chris Ross added 11 points.

Next up, the Timberwolves travel to Victoria for a pair of games Dec. 3 and 4.
