BC Public Service workers show high rate of compliance to mandatory vaccination policy
BC- The COVID-19 vaccination rate among BC’s public service workers is very high. According to the province, more than 98% of people working for the provincial government have met the proof of vaccination policy that came into effect on November 22, and are either partially or fully vaccinated.
Data from the BC Public Service Agency has shown that 97% of the 38,240 public servant employees that were asked for vaccination proof have met the full vaccination requirement. 1.15% (439) of the employees have received one dose of a vaccine, and 1.13% (432) are unvaccinated, or refused to disclose their vaccination status. The other 0.72% (274) have requested an accommodation based on a medical condition.
BC Public Service is one of the largest employers in the province, and the new vaccination policy applies to all workers, whether they work onsite or remotely.
Unvaccinated employees, those who refuse to disclose, and partially vaccinated employees who do not receive their second dose within 35 days of their first shot are placed on unpaid leave for three months. Employees who do not show proof of full vaccination after the three-month unpaid leave may be terminated.
