PRINCE GEORGE- Created by Hunters, 1Campfire is looking to try to end the stigmatism around the sport.

“It’s an idea. It’s a movement that we created about five years ago to tell the story of what a hunter really is,” said Steve Hamilton, communications manager with 1Campfire. “There’s a stereotype that surrounds hunting because we haven’t told our story for what it really is.”

A story of a group that says hunting isn’t just about shooting but appreciating the beauty of our communities.

“A hunter is somebody that gets outside and enjoys the outdoors for more than just the kill. There’s a lot more to it,” said Hamilton. ” It’s getting outside, enjoying the environment, enjoying the backcountry, recreating with friends and family, passing on traditions and sharing an experience that goes more than just a trigger pull.”

1Campfire was involved with removing trucks from Buckhorn lake just a few weeks ago, saying taking care of our environment is a top priority.

“One of the things that are ingrained in what we do is take care of the ecosystem system first,” said Kyle Stelter, CEO of the Wild Sheep Society of BC. “When I’m in the backcountry, and I’ve taught this from a young age with my children, you know, there’s debris here. Let’s clean that up. Let’s take some of it out.”

It is all Just another way to connect with the outdoors.

“I think most hunters, for them, it’s almost an experience, and it’s almost spiritual,” Said Stelter. “It’s the core of who we are. For me, you know, I just spent two weeks on a hunting trip. I never pulled the trigger. I never brought an animal home. But that was one of the best trips I’ve ever had.”
