Spruce Kings back on ice Friday night against Salmon Arm after week off

PRINCE GEORGE – The Spruce Kings are back on the ice this Friday night after some time away for the BCHL All-Star weekend. The team hasn’t played since January 14 when they split their road trip beating Chilliwack and falling to Trail, which means they’ve had some good rest as they look to take on Salmon Arm. But head coach Alex Evan says a break isn’t always a good thing.

“If you’re playing well it’s nice to get into a rhythm and play some more games and keep things going. We can’t control our schedule. We obviously used the extra time for practice and some team building. […] The guys did a good job in terms of practicing and using the time off effectively.”

– Alex Evin, Spruce Kings Head Coach

Wins didn’t come naturally for the Kings in the first half of the season, but as of late, they’ve been collecting at least one win a weekend, which is undeniably a step up, but there’s still more to work on.

“We’ve got a long way to go in terms of learning how to win and we’ve taken some little steps, which is nice, but it takes time with a young group and a lot of new guys. It’s tough to win.”

“We are happy to get those wins, but I think it’s mostly we need to be more consistent. I don’t think a 50/50 split should happen very often.”

– Trent Ballentyne, Spruce Kings Right Defenseman

Friday night the Spruce Kings will pay tribute to the late Chuck Chin, and as Scott Cousins says, the team will be playing for Chuck and his family when they step on the ice.

“He was a big figure and just an all-around great community person and he’ll be missed greatly. And I know we’re planning on honoring him on Friday night.”

The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. and one lucky fan will get the chance to shoot to win a car during the first intermission.
