Prince George senior asking more of her vintage to help with city cleanup

PRINCE GEORGE — Local senior Marlene Hardstaff is encouraging more folks of her vintage to help clean the streets of Prince George.

The annual spring cleanup event in the city will take place on Sunday (April 21) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Oftentimes, people who are older just sit and don’t do anything because they think they can’t or the little bit they can do is too small, and people that are handicapped quite often feel worthless because there is nothing they can do,” Hardstaff said.

“Well, there is always something we can do no matter how small it is.”

Hardstaff is asking seniors to meet her cleanup crew at 1 p.m. at 10th Avenue and Alward Steet.

“There is lots of garbage around and it looks unsightly,” Hardstaff said, noting the plan is to cover a four-block area.

“Besides, we need to be out doing something, getting some fresh air and doing something to keep our own little space as nice as we can — because we care.”
