PRINCE GEORGE – Last month seven-year-old Ayla Windley set a goal to raise $500 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Not only did she reach her goal, but she doubled it, raising $1,150.

At today’s Relay For Life, Ayla cut her long blonde locks to help make wigs for those with cancer.

Ayla was inspired to do all of this in honour of her twin sister Arwen, who lost her battle with brain cancer at three years old.

“She was really kind and she helped me and I helped her when we needed each other,” says Ayla Windley, Relay For Life Participant.

Relay For Life coordinator Aimee Cassie is overwhelmed by the community’s response to the yearly event. “Prince George can be so proud of what we do for Relay For Life, we walk for 24 hours because someone fights cancer for 24 hours a day,” says Cassie.

The walk began at 10:00 am this morning at its new home at Exhibition Park, and continues until 10:00 am on Sunday. This year 19 people have pledged to walk the full 24 hours.
