Jun 21, 2019 | 8:42 AM

PRINCE GEORGE–It’s Pride month and in celebration of that, and next months Pride Parade the Prince George Queer Cafe along with PG GenderOutlines are hosting a Pride Picnic.

This is the second year the Pride Picnic is running; last year around 50 people showed up and so far this year, around 260 are interested in the event.

“I think it’s important to do this right now and show that we are a community, we’re a diverse community and we really appreciate that our community welcomes and supports us.”– Laura Lawrence, Member of PG Queer Care

Food won’t be provided, so attendees are asked to bring their own food, sharing is caring though and is encouraged.

Laura Lawrence a member of the Prince George Queer Cafe says that events like these are super important to the LGBTQ+ community and also key in keeping people in the city.

“People who are queer often move away from smaller communities because they don’t feel like they get the support that they need here.”– Laura Lawrence, Member of PG Queer Care

Lawrence has been living in Prince George for six years and says that the LGBTQ+ community keeps evolving, with more and more resources available to people.

The event runs from 6 pm to 8 pm on Saturday, June 22nd at Rainbow Park and will include live music, face painting and games.
