Regional District looking for new transfer station

PRINCE GEORGE – The City and the Regional District have renewed a partnership that sees the latter run the Quinn Street Recycling Depot. It is a location where residents can drop off their yards waste and various other things, like dead car batteries, used oil as well as cardboard and newspaper.

The “caretaker” agreement is for one year, but the City says it will need that location to expand the 18th Avenue Yards in the future. The Regional District is looking for a new location.

“The Regional District is currently in the process of assessing the potential alternatives for the Quinn Street facility,” says Petra Wildauer, General Manager of Environmental Services for the Regional District. “That’ll take a bit of time.”

And at least one City Councillor wants a sani-dump as well. Frank Everitt put forward a motion at the most recent Council meeting, directing staff to “secure a site” for a sani-dump. The site, which is located directly beside the transfer station was shut down several years back as part of a core review of civic services.
