Not all wrapping paper is recyclable: How to wrap green this holiday season
PRINCE GEORGE–Christmas is under two weeks away and that means people have begun, are almost done, or haven’t even started their gift wrapping.
Regardless of at which point you’re at you might have used wrapping paper, may be using wrapping paper, or are considering to use it. However, not all wrapping paper is recyclable and may be doing more harm than good.
Brown wrapping paper can be recycled, with other paper, once stickers, tape and bows have been removed, “the stuff that is crinkly, foily, the stuff that like curls up into a ball really tightly and stuff like that..that’s the stuff that we can’t put in our recycling bin and it’s just the composition of what that paper is made of,” said Laura Zapotichny, Waste Diversion Manager with the Regional District of Fraser Fort George.
So what can you use to wrap gifts in if you want to be a bit more green this Holiday season? “Whatever your imagination will bring forward, that is your limit,” said Terri McClymont, Executive Director of REAPS.
