Too Much Ice!

PRINCE GEORGE – It’s been a tough winter for getting around, with ice covering most surfaces.

“To prevent a fall, it’s important to wear sturdy footwear. Ice grippers are a good idea when you’re going through icy conditions,” says Natasha Thorne, Injury Prevention Nurse with Northern Health. “When you’re planning your route, avoid ice as much as possible.”

But she adds, building your core through exercise will help to manoeuvre the conditions safely.

“If you have good core strength, that’s the key. All year-round, you could be participating in strength and balance exercise Evidence shows that if you spend three hours a week in strength and balance exercises, that gives you the core strength that, if you do find yourself in a fall, you can catch yourself and you’re less likely to be injured.”
