PRINCE GEORGE – With some of the lifted restrictions on retail shops and restaurants, the work that began to resolve some of the issues downtown will begin again.

Many of the enhancements approved by Council prior to the COVID-19 pandemic are now in place and operational.

“So it’s Bylaw Services that are dedicated to the downtown. Four Bylaw Services Officers. RCMP now have their patrols downtown,” explains Mayor Lyn Hall. “That was set aside for a period of time when the [PHO’s] orders came out and the RCMP were doing other work that was pandemic- So I’m pretty pleased that we’re seeing that kick start.”

Some other measures include enhanced security at the 2nd and 5th Avenue parades, contracted security for downtown civic facilities and funding for two downtown service hubs that provide washrooms, storage and other critical services.
