PRINCE GEORGE – The local Spinal Cord Injury BC group has come up with a unique way of raising funds, lift people’s Canadian pride and an idea to start a family tradition.

The group will be taking donations in exchange for a Canadian heritage sugar maple sapling.

Nancy Harris has a love for Maple trees and Canada. During this time of the pandemic, she was concerned the Canada Day celebration would be put on hold.

So as a fundraiser for Spinal Cord injury BC she came up with a creative idea that would make many Canadians proud. WATCH VIDEO CLIP:

There are 120 sugar maple saplings available for $25 dollars each. According to Harris, these saplings come from a line of trees that go back six generations and are known to produce quality maple syrup.

These maples were sprouted in Prince George this spring and planted into four-inch pots. These little maple trees are expected to be four inches in height on Canada Day and by fall, 10 to 12 inches.

After a few years, they will produce the leaf we see on the Canadian flag. All the funds raised will go toward the Spinal Cord Injury BC.

The sugar maple tree saplings are available at the Spinal Cord Injury BC web site.
