New partnership struck between two local First Nations

PRINCE GEORGE—A new partnership was struck this morning (June 22) between two First Nations.

The Lheidli T’enneh and McLeod Lake Indian Band announced the creation of a new industrial park, between the two First Nations’ territories. The 1000 acre park, Shas-Ti Dlezeh Industrial Park, will be accessible from both, Highway 97 and Fraser Forest Service Road.

“The proposed new industrial park and the commitment that our Nations have made to work together in partnership, provides greater assurance that projects proposed for location in the Shas Ti – Dlezeh Industrial Park will meet our environmental standards, as well as maximize economic benefits to our communities and the region.”—Chief Dayi Clay Pountney, Lheidli T’enneh Nation

The plan is to use the land not only to benefit the two First Nations, but also Prince George and Mackenzie.

“Our two communities have a history of being trading partners and it only makes sense that we work together with the LTN (Lheidli T’enneh Nation) and jointly pursue this new business opportunity. Not only will development of Shas Ti – Dlezeh Industrial Park benefit our communities and other First Nations but it will also provide long term benefits to both the economies of Prince George and Mackenzie,” said Chief of the McLeod Lake Indian Band, Harley Chingee.
