Local company under fire after clearing allegedly agreed-upon buffer space
PRINCE GEORGE — Some controversy on North Nechako Road this week as a buffer zone has been cleared allegedly going against a prior agreement between the City of Prince George and Rolling Mix Concrete. According to Brian Skakun, City Councillor, there is a bylaw in place to protect a 100 meter buffer zone of trees between work being done by the company and residences on Rosia Road.
“A couple years ago, Council allowed the long-term plan for the gravel pit extraction. One of the agreements was to leave a 100 meter buffer between the eventual expansion of the pit and Rosia Road all the way along to the North Nechako River,” Skakun said.
One resident on Rosia told CKPG there were bulldozers clearing the area on Monday and that there was no prior meeting or understanding for that action to be taken.
