PRINCE GEORGE — The BC Liberals are calling on the provincial government to immediately renew funding for BC Bus north which expires at the end of next month.

Transportation and infrastructure critic Michael Lee says nearly 9,000 British Columbians use the service which is a vital transportation link for many northerners.

He says the last 14 month extension cost $2 million with the bill split between the provincial and federal governments.

BC Bus North was first launched in 2018 to fill the gap left behind when Greyhound discontinued its northern B.C. routes.

“It is now more important than ever that we support these vital transportation networks,” added Lee. “Transportation Minister Rob Fleming needs to take real action and provide continued funding for services like BC Bus North, as well as new support for routes like Tofino Bus and Vancouver Island Connector that are struggling to survive because of the COVID-19 pandemic. British Columbians need to know that the services they depend on will be available to them for years to come, and it is the responsibility of the Minister to provide certainty today.”
