Trotter earns 2nd shutout in Spruce Kings 2-0 victory over Chiefs

CHILLIWACK, BC – Aaron Trotter snagged his second shutout in three starts tonight, while Kolton Cousins and Christian Buono both tallied and it was all the Prince George Spruce Kings needed offensively, en route to a 2-0 triumph over the Chilliwack Chiefs.

At 8:27 of the opening period, Colton Cameron had three different scoring chances blocked, or stopped by the goaltender Derek Gullmes, however, after the third attempt, the puck found the stick of Kolton Cousins at the left circle and slid it by Gullmes to give the Spruce Kings the lead.

Cousins’ third of the pod season had Cameron and Linden Makow with the helpers.

The middle frame didn’t see any scoring from either of the two sides. Prince George held the edge in the shots department, registering nine while the Chiefs had eight.

Come the third period, the Spruce Kings ona powerplay, Christian Buono had the puck at the left circle and wired a wrist shot top corner over Gullmes to give the Spruce Kings a late lead. Buono’s power-play tally and 6th goal in the Pod came at 11:08, with the lone assist being credited to Rowan Miller.

The game would stand at a 2-0 score in favour of the Spruce Kings. Aaron Trotter completing the 22-save shutout, his second of the season, to improve his season’s record to 3-2-1.

Prince George will be back in action Saturday night when they meet back up with Chilliwack.
