Quesnel waterfront plan set to restore true ‘river city’ identity

QUESNEL – As temperatures warm up, and the snow melts away the construction season begins for some of the first major development on the Quesnel waterfront.

The plan is a lengthy one for the Quesnel waterfront, on the Quesnel River, Fraser River, and Baker Creek, all the centrepieces for the future.

“This will really lead us back down to being a true river city once again,” says Bob Simpson, Mayor of the City of Quesnel.

The new development contingent on the new highway interconnector being built to divert the heavy traffic off of Front street downtown Quesnel.

The plan to restore the waterfront will first see a new municipal campground constructed along the Quesnel River, along with the beginnings of a cultural centre.

The culture centre the result of many years of truth and reconciliation with the Lhtako Dene Nation according to Mayor Simpson.

The plan to restore the waterfront is a phased one, set to be complete in a number of years, with the end goal of transforming the downtown core and draw tourists into the area.
