Prince George Alzheimer’s Walk Sunday afternoon

PRINCE GEORGE — Across British Columbia, thousands of people are expected to attend their local Walk for Alzheimer’s Sunday. The event is the largest annual fundraising event for the Society.

But it is also a way to honour and recognize individuals who are dealing with the disease. In each community across the province, a local honouree is named to lead the walk.

The Walk in Prince George will be led by Sandi and Florent Foucher. The couple has been married for 52 years. They saw the first signs of the disease eight years ago in Sandi and are sharing their journey in hopes it will help others living with dementia.

“People don’t understand the struggles that are going on inside,” says Sandi, primary caregiver to Florent, who lives at home with the disease. “I don’t want to be negative when I see people. I want to be positive about something.”

There are more than 85 thousand British Columbians living with dementia. The Alzheimers Society provides people living with dementia, along with their caregivers, support to get the best quality of life throughout the progression of the disease. The cost of the support is provided through funding raised at events like the annual walk.

The 2023 walk takes place at the YMCA of Northern B.C. on Massey Drive. Registration begins at 1 p.m., while the walk will start at 1:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted online by clicking here.
