Groups for and against SOGI to rally outside City Hall Wednesday

PRINCE GEORGE — Various faith communities in Prince George will gather outside City Hall Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. to advocate for parents rights to educate their own children on sexual issues, including their right to bypass sexual education.

A news release states they’re not protesting against any specific groups of people, including LGBTQ+ people.

“This is not a protest against any people groups,” says Media Coordinator David G. Low. “We come together in love for our community, our children and love for LGBTQ+ people.”

A march will follow the gathering.

But the group “PG Physicians against Hate,” is planning a counter protest later Wednesday at 4 p.m. at City Hall. They are concerned about the gathering organized for 9 a.m.

“This protest is one of many planned in 77 cities and towns across Canada. In recent years, gender diverse children and youth have been targeted by hate-based anti-trans groups, who are spreading harmful misinformation.”

The group says SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) is a framework that applies to everyone, no matter their identity, and aims to make schools safe spaces for all.

“A solid body of reputable evidence shows that gender affirming care can save lives, significantly improve mental health, and reduce suicide attempts.”

In response to news of hate-fuelled marches planned in cities and towns across the province, B.C.’s Human Rights Commissioner, Kasari Govender, has issued a statement clearly articulating that the human rights of trans and LGBTQ2SAI+ people are not up for debate.
