PRINCE GEORGE — Emotions were high outside of city hall Wednesday morning, as a protest was held against SOGI. The group says they support all children’s rights to be educated in academic and their right to NOT be educated in sexuality. The protest in Prince George just one of many being held across Canada.

“We want to express our support today for parents who are involved in their kid’s education and who do not want sexualized classes, sexualized SOGI, sexual orientation and gender identity to be taught to their kids in school.” – David Low, Protest Organizer

BC Human Rights commissioner Kasari Govender issued a statement on Tuesday, calling the protests and marches “hate-fuelled” and says that the human rights of trans and LGBTQ2SAI+ people are not up for debate, but David Low says that this isn’t about hate.

“If they want to come and see how hateful we are, they should come and they will find out that this is really propaganda. This is because they don’t really want to give up their right to sexualize their kids in school. That’s really what it is.” – David Low, Protest Organizer

A counter-protest will be taking place outside city hall at 4, and a group called PG Physicians Against Hate, will be taking part, saying hate has no place in our community.

“The focus of our of our involvement in the demonstration today is really a it’s a message of inclusion, a message of affirmation. When we have discussions around inclusion in our schools, it actually makes schools safer for all youth and kids, not just for trans youth, not just for gender diverse kids.” – Dr. Sheona Mitchell-Foster, PG Physicians Against Hate

The anti-SOGI demonstration finished with a march, walking from city hall to the office of the Prince George District Teachers Association.
