Residents of Wells can return home

Jul 25, 2024 | 7:01 PM

CARIBOO— The Mayor of Wells has rescinded the evacuation order for the community as of July 25, 2024, 5:00 p.m.

“The wildfire branch has advised me that they feel it’s safe enough for our citizens, for the district wells to come home,” says Mayor Ed Coleman.

However an evacuation alert is still in place. Officials recommend staying alert and being ready to evacuate once more if conditions worsen.

“We feel it’s safe to come home,” adds Coleman. “But be prudent. We have an alert on. Which means you should be ready to leave if conditions change.”

The 14,283 hectare Antler Creek Wildfire is still classified as out of control with evacuation orders in effect for Barkerville and the Bowron Lake area.

No word yet on the status of the Arts Wells Festival.
