TWolves begin final road weekend with defeat in Langley

LANGLEY B.C. — The UNBC Timberwolves began their final road weekend of the Canada West season with a pair of defeats against the Trinity Western Spartans Friday (Feb. 7) night.

The 4-13 UNBC women kicked off their weekend with a 70-63 loss at the hands of the 9-8 Spartans.

UNBC was led by their Russian tandem of Sveta Boykova (24 points) and Viktoriia Filatova (23 points). Boykova also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and finished with three steals and a pair of blocks.

Over in men’s action, the 1-16 Timberwolves were beaten 76-66 by the 9-8 Spartans.

Evgeny Baukin finished with a team-high 20 points for UNBC. He also added eight rebounds, four steals and a pair of blocks. Josh Gillespie also matched his previous career-high with 17 points in a losing effort.

The TWolves and Spartans will rematch Saturday night, with the women’s game scheduled for 4:00 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 6:00 p.m.

The TWolves will then close out the regular season at home against the UBC Thunderbirds next weekend, Feb. 14 and 15.
