PRINCE GEORGE — Two people were arrested in downtown Prince George Thursday morning after they were suspected of starting a fire.

RCMP received the call just after 8 a.m. when a witness reported seeing some suspicious activity near a building on the 1100-block of Sixth Avenue. When officers arrived, they found Prince George Fire Rescue activity engaged in dousing a small fire.

Two suspects were identified by witnesses and located by police a short distance away. The pair are known to police for similar events and have been held in custody until they can attend a bail hearing.

The fire occurred just steps from the big fire at CrossRoads Brewing last month.

“The City of Prince George, with the assistance of the Province of B.C. as well as numerous local agencies, has worked tirelessly to bring shelter and services to those in the community requiring such a need. It is completely unnecessary to start a warming fire under any circumstance against or nearby any business, building or structure. This is criminal behaviour, meant to cause harm. Thank you to the public in bringing this immediately to our attention, which resulted in a quick response and arrest.,” states Superintendent Darin Rappel, Commanding Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
