PRINCE GEORGE – The UNBC Timberwolves men’s and women’s basketball teams hit the hardwood this weekend to kickoff the 2025-26 season. Both teams are coming off of subpar seasons and look to take the next step forward with a more experienced group this campaign. The men’s team suited up 7 first year players last season and the results reflected that as the Wolves finished last in their division with a 1-19 record.

“I think a big part was just continuing to work after the season. Right when last season was done we got right back to work just putting in lots of time and we build a lot of confidence through that. We had six rookies last year and now that we’ve all come back for a second year were feeling really good.” said Timberwolves guard Ben White.

Coming off a sole win last season may have many underestimating the Timberwolves but the team feels differently. They are entering this season refocused, prepared and with high expectations.

“The main expectation and the main thing we’re shooting for right now is making the playoffs. I think once that happens anything can happen. So we’re really just trying to win as many games as possible and put ourselves in a position to win in March. Regardless of last season our expectations are high. We’re really feeling a new energy and trust within our group and we’re excited for the season.” said White.

The new season gets under way this Sunday October 27th with a food drive tailgate party in the Northern Sports Centre parking lot from 1-2pm. Anybody who brings non-perishables will receive freed food and drinks. Following the party both teams will play University of BC, Okanagan with the women tipping off at 2pm and the men next up at 4pm.
