PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George RCMP, alongside community partners, has kicked off the city’s inaugural Purple Light Nights Campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. The colour purple, a symbol of domestic violence awareness since 1987, lies at the heart of this campaign’s message.

Originally started in Covington, Washington, in 2006, Purple Light Nights invites residents and businesses to illuminate their spaces with purple lights, sending a powerful message that domestic violence has no place in our community.

On October 16, 2025, the Prince George VAWIR committee officially recognized this important initiative by presenting a proclamation, establishing that the campaign will take place annually from October 16 to 30. The goal of this initiative is to honour victims and survivors, raise awareness, and educate the public about prevention and available support resources.
