Expropriation is considered a ‘Last Resort’ as Prince George moves to meet new sewer regulations
PRINCE GEORGE – Expropriation by a government is a rare action, usually undertaken only when vital public projects cannot proceed through standard negotiations. Currently, the City of Prince George is pursuing this measure to obtain the right-of-way necessary for a new sewer line connecting to the city’s central sewer system.
Dag Pettersen owns a section of property near Highway 16 west and Blackwater Road. The city of Prince George intends to route a sewer line through his property, and he opposes it. He says he has been in talks with the city for 3 years, but has yet to find common ground.
“ They want to put a wastewater sewer line, splitting this lot with the quarter section going right through. Actually, the best part of my property”
