Prince George Crime Severity Index continues downward trend, RCMP say

PRINCE GEORGE — The latest Crime Severity Index (CSI) figures from Statistics Canada show crime levels in Prince George continue to drop, a trend local RCMP say reflects the impact of increased policing efforts and community partnerships.
According to data released last week, Prince George’s overall CSI score fell from 232.70 in 2023 to 193.75 in 2025. The index, which measures both the volume and severity of police-reported crime, also shows a 7.1 per cent decline in violent crime and a 1.6 per cent decrease in non-violent crime between 2024 and 2025.
While the numbers point to improvements, RCMP caution that the CSI is only one measure used to assess community safety.
“We continue to see the CSI drop along with the number of police calls for service,” said Prince George RCMP Officer in Charge Superintendent Darin Rappel. “While crime trends have many factors that influence them, we know that our work with our community partners such as City Bylaws, B.C. Housing, and many others, continues to make a positive impact in our community.”
