MONTREAL — Defending champions Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson opened the FIVB Beach Pro Tour’s stop in Montreal with a comfortable 2-0 win over Brazil’s Carolina Horta and Ana Patricia Ramos on Thursday.

Set scores were 21-12, 21-12.

Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson are seeking a third straight title at the Montreal beach volleyball tournament after winning in 2023 and 2025. The Toronto team got a measure of revenge Thursday, outscoring the Brazilians 26-18 on attack points and 8-1 on serves.

Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson played a second game against Lithuania’s Monika Paulikiene and Aine Raupelyte later Thursday.

In early men’s results, Samuel Schachter of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Jonathan Pickett of Wiarton, Ont., lost 2-0 to Brazil’s Evandro Oliveira and Arthur Lanci, and Cameron Chadwick of Barrie, Ont., and Steven Abrams of Georgetown, Ont., fell 2-0 to Jacob Holting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson of Sweden.
